Why should you recycle?

Recycling saves energy, saves water, conserves resource, reduces landfill space, and conserves the amount of gasses released into the air. Recycling is only the beginning of helping the environment and the first step to start is at home and in schools!

Paper: According to lessismore.org, "Recycling one ton of office paper saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 463 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, and enough energy to heat an average home for six months trees.  Further, manufacturing one ton of office paper using recycled paper stock can save 3,000 to 4,000 kilowatt hours versus making that amount using virgin materials." (lessismore.org)

Plastic: The average American buys 28 **BILLION** bottles of water yearly and about 70-80% of those bottles end up in landfill. The best way to avoid using plastic water bottles is to use reusable water bottles!

Metal: By recycling metals, more jobs are created, and can be reused for car parts, electrical wires, and plumbing pipes. When metal is recycled, this eliminates greenhouse gasses used when creating new metals.

Glass: Glass can take millions of years to break down. When glass is recycled, it goes back to the manufacturer and is reused and put back on store shelves! Glass is 100% recyclable so it can be used over and over again.
